The best place to store surplus food is in people’s stomachs! Therefore, we have made an effort locally to provide food to individuals without question. To qualify, they just have to be hungry and be able to eat!

Ruby’s Pantry is “a hand up, not a hand out.” In reality, people feel good helping the organization with a small financial contribution. Participants receive an abundance of food. Often the families will leave with over $100 or more worth of groceries.

Ruby’s Pantry holds food distributions in a number of locations primarily across the northern tier of Minnesota and Wisconsin. When attending one of our distributions you are truly a guest and partner in this ministry. A guest because our volunteers are there to serve you with enthusiasm and partner because you are given an “opportunity for dignity” by donating $20 to help cover the operational cost. Ruby’s Pantry has no government funding.  It is primarily funded by the contributions of our guests. Approximately 97% of the people who attend our distributions contribute the $20. Please bring cash to help to simplify bookkeeping and two large boxes or laundry baskets. We do not sell food!

When you arrive at a distribution for the first time you will need to register and then sign in. This is a simple registration that requires no documentation. After the first time you will need to simply sign in. The $20 is paid first, then your registration form is handed in/signed in and you will be given a number.

Then you will wait until your number is called and you will go through a line where the food is then placed in your boxes. Although you aren’t required to take anything that you do not want we encourage you to take it and share with your family members, neighbors and friends.

There will be help for you to carry out your boxes to your car.

Why can’t I find the Isanti food list?

  3. Sunshine Crowe August 11, 2016 at 1:55 am #

Why is it if a person don’t have $20 to donate, the Workers tell you you can’t come back until you have the “donation”? You are only allow one “free.” trip:

    • Ruby's Pantry August 11, 2016 at 9:34 am #

We offer a “hand up not a hand out.” Most of our distributions are in remote locations and we ask for a $20 cash donation to cover the immense costs of the trucks that bring the food.

  4. Michel September 18, 2016 at 7:41 pm #

I preregistered a share for my daughter … she now has to work and can’t pick up her share. Can I pick it up for her?

  17. Betty August 20, 2017 at 10:56 am #

I would like to come to the Platteville, WI location for pickup for my first time, can I register on-line ahead of time to speed up the process when I get there?

    • Ruby's Pantry August 20, 2017 at 1:13 pm #

The Platteville Pop-Up Pantry does not currently participate in our Online Preregistration Program. However, if you have a printer, you may complete the Registration Form online, print it and bring with you to the next Pantry. Otherwise you may complete the Registration Form when you arrive. This is required once per year per Pop-Up Pantry.

  18. Darlene August 26, 2017 at 5:31 pm #

With the loyalty card does one have to preregister the free share or do they automatically give it when it is time?

    • Ruby's Pantry August 26, 2017 at 9:26 pm #

Please make a notation in the Order Notes during preregistration that you’ll also be picking up your free share. Please bring your filled Loyalty Card along with your email confirmation with you to the Pop-Up Pantry.

  19. bnasvoboda October 8, 2017 at 3:21 pm #

My friend always goes hours early because of the long lines. I pre-registered online, it says to come 15 minutes before it opens . Should I come earlier or is there a separate line when you already prepay?

    • Ruby's Pantry October 16, 2017 at 11:22 am #

There is a separate line at the Cook Pop-Up Pantry.

  20. Rose October 21, 2017 at 5:24 pm #

Is it true that you are going to be opening a pop up in Fertile MN? If so, when?

    • Ruby's Pantry October 23, 2017 at 10:40 am #

No, we are not currently looking to start a Ruby’s Pop-Up Pantry in Fertile MN.

  21. Dan November 22, 2017 at 9:42 pm #

I see that you can get two shares. My question is can you go to two different sites or do you need to register at each site. Example… Lebanon is second Tuesday of month and Hartford is fourth Tuesday of month.

    • Social Manager November 24, 2017 at 9:05 am #

Thanks for the inquiry. You are open to visiting any of the Pop-UP Pantry locations including multiple locations. You will register at each site location one time per year. You can also pre-register on more than one site if that location has preregistration available. Visit our facebook page for locations and preregistration details. You can also complete a registration form, print and bring that with you or you can complete at the pantry location.

  24. Rob January 10, 2018 at 11:27 pm #

I work in a group home, where we have 8 residents total in a duplex that would benefit from this greatly. Can we have a staff member go and basically pick up 8 shares at a time, having the full $160 in cash with them. Thanks!

    • Social Manager January 11, 2018 at 8:32 am #

Absolutely! You can bring boxes/totes with you (we recommend 2 per share) and sign-in upon arrival. If the location is a pre-register site, you can also pre-register for the shares which makes it a bit quicker when arriving and going through the distribution.

Any chance Ruby’s is coming to Madison? Heard such wonderful and positive experiences from others using Ruby’s elsewhere.

  32. Joshua Simon April 10, 2019 at 7:36 am #

Just one question. I live in an apartment/house and was wondering if my roommate could get food/share as well as me? So we could both go?

Since we rent a house, I understand that we count towards the same household. But we are unrelated and are on our own financially.

    • Social Manager April 10, 2019 at 11:20 am #

Yes, at most locations you can get multiple shares. There is no income or residency requirement. You can each get shares individually or at most locations you can donate multiple shares per household. We do have a few sites that due to the amount of guests and individuals who attend it is limited to 1 share per person (but you can still do multiple per household).

  33. Kesha April 28, 2019 at 6:47 pm #

Do you have a location in Rochester Mn?

    • Social Manager April 29, 2019 at 11:06 am #

Currently our closest location is in Albert Lea, MN. We anticipate getting a location in the Rochester area. We are always looking for sponsoring churches to work with us on opening a new Ruby’s Pop-Up Pantry.

  34. Sam H January 14, 2020 at 7:49 am #

We have been told that the yearly registration is going to be completed online for the year 2020. I have looked at the sites I go to and can’t find anything that allows me to complete the yearly registration.

    • Social Manager January 14, 2020 at 3:18 pm #

The new website launches March 1st. You do not need to complete an online user sign up yet and you do not need to complete a Guest Registration form for 2020 if you have attended a Pop-Up Pantry in the past. The online sign up will start March 1st or after.
