Important Meat Cooking Announcement

Ruby’s Volunteers and Guests:

Since last Friday, May 25, 2018, we’ve been working with the Minnesota and Wisconsin Health Departments over an issue of uncooked chicken. We were initially unaware that the chicken arrived uncooked. It is breaded and looks very much like cooked chicken. It is an excellent product; however, it does need to be fully cooked.

This chicken was recently distributed through a number of Ruby’s Pop-Up Pantries in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The chicken is perfectly good; however, some did not cook it fully, assuming it was precooked and that they could simply heat it in the microwave for a short time. We’ve had three people in northern Wisconsin, one person in east-central Minnesota and two people in northwestern Minnesota who were affected by this and became ill.
Please note that any chicken you receive at a Ruby’s Pop-Up Pantry must be cooked thoroughly to 165°F, whether it is precooked or uncooked by the factory, to avoid any potential illness.
Tomorrow morning there will be a news release sent throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin regarding similar information to this communication. Please share this with others who have attended a Ruby’s Pop-Up Pantry since February 2018.
Thank you in advance for your kind responses and considerations in helping others and yourself to make this a wonderful experience.

I have the same chicken. Assumed it was precooked and microwaved for 2 min to heat. I ate about half of my piece before realizing it was not fully cooked. Had no illness due to consuming raw chicken. Feel silly for not checking it first. Thank you for all you do with Ruby’s Pantry.

I was told it was not cooked when I received it. I baked it for 30 minutes at 350 and it was delicious.

I want to attend the Ruby’s Pantry on July 14th, but I would like to sign up on line and I don’t see Fond du Lac listed. Are all the time slots filled?

The Fond du Lac location is full for pre-registration but you can always attend the location and register on-site. We recommend you arrive 30 minutes prior to the distribution start time if you have not pre-registered. Thank you.
